Gaming Tokenomics

Gaming in blockchain is becoming very prevalent and this has sparked up an interesting discussion from a gaming tokenomics perspective. I will share insight about various Tokenomics employed within the blockchain industry.

Burn mechanics:

Within the Axie Infinity ecosystem there exists a burn mechanic fused with breeding functionality. An interesting attribute that they monitor is the amount of burn done per day. Here’s a tweet of an analytical dashboard of what happens with $SLP token from a burn and marketplace usage perspective.

Token burn increases the value of your token. Even though the market cap may not change, the scarcity in which burning introduces causes the token to become valuable since you removed some of them from circulation. (Not financial advice). If you want to read about this in more detail here’s an Investopedia article where there’s a section about Practical applications toward Token Burning.

Some invested community members have aspirations of plugging in unique burn mechanics. One such example is shown below regarding many activities attached to burning $SLP.

Toolkits and Frameworks:

There are various toolkits and frameworks available for new game developers to start buidling games, especially on Ethereum or EVM based alt chains. For instance, the team at Game Starter support game developers with a Token Launch, an NFT store, a Staking solution and Unity 3D authentication.

The Sandbox gives people the opportunity to make their own virtual land space. They have implemented a game maker engine that users can use (without coding experience) to build a game of their dreams.

Token distribution:

Token distribution is mostly done through rewarding community participation in-game or on social media for example. Players can earn tokens in-game then bridge them on-chain for storage within their personal wallet.

You can split up the token distribution in several ways. Here’s a screenshot of how Dinox has done it.

Conclusion:

Keep jamming those games and good luck on your project if you make them too.
